Tendrils Program Note
Tendrils takes the shape of a winding thread that is constantly spiraling outwards from its origin. Plant tendrils slowly twist and turn as they grope for support, which is similar to the way in which the instrumental voices push and pull each other as they struggle to find resolution. The choice of instrumentation highlights the importance of wind imagery to the sound world of the piece: the searching tendrils are blown about by gusts of wind that inevitably change their course.
